This photograph was taken for the january 22, 1981 Rolling Stone Cover. It shows John Lennon and Yoko Ono.
Why do I choose this photo you should be asking? Well, John Lennon is one of my favourite artists, and this photo was shot the same day he died(8 December, 1980). Probably, his last photography.
By the other hand, it was taken by the critically acclaimed Annie Leibovitz. While not her best work by any means, it combines two artists I really aprecciate, and a magazine I love.
John Lennon has been hailed as one of the most important and influential musicians of all times. He gained worldwide fame as one of the founding members of The Beatles, and as an highly talented composer whose legacy and relevance on music industry is undeniable. Along with his wife, Yoko Ono, he introduced many elements of psichedelic rock and avant-garde to the band, improving his quality as an already proficient composer.
A shame we'll never get to see him again creating amazing songs, playing an instrument, or singing after this portrait.
